The wines we serve
Since the days of the ancient Etruscans, Umbrian vintners have enjoyed remarkable ease cultivating their vineyards. The region is blessed with a favorable climate, suitable landscapes, rich spring waters, and clay ground that allow for the production of high quality wines.
Umbriacooks4u proudly serves a large variety of locally produced wines that are classified under the Italian government’s quality control system as DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) and DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita—guaranteed).
Umbrian wine varieties that appear on the Tita’s elegantly set dining room table are from:
- Assisi and the nearby towns of Perugia and Spello, good for producing red, white and rosé wines. Famous are Grechetto and Novello.
- Colli Perugini, with vineyards that have been cultivated since the days of the Etruscans and the Roman Empire.
- Montefalco, where Itriola was produced in the days of the Romans, and later replaced by the world-famous Sagrantino. The area also is known for a dry red and a Passito (raisin wine).
- Orvieto, where an excellent dry sweet white wine has been produced and preserved in tufa caves since Etruscan times.
- Torgiano, a more recent production area specializing in rosé, red wines and spumante.
- Trasimeno, one of Umbria’s most special vineyard areas with sun-soaked hills facilitating the making of red and white wines.
